Longboat Key, Florida - Publix is expanding on Longboat Key, but there will be some growing pains.
The Publix in the Avenue of the Flowers Shopping Center has closed and while there are convenience stores on the Key, residents must now travel to the mainland for a full-service grocery
...more store.
Publix will raze the building next month, in order to redevelop the entire shopping area.
With 49,000 square feet, the new store will be larger and is scheduled to open in December 2012.
A Publix statement says the new facility will offer a wide assortment of conventional items, as well as a large selection of earth-friendly, all-natural and organic products.
A free-standing CVS will also be part of the development.
