Avon Park, Florida- The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is investigating a construction fraud case in the Avon Park area of Highlands County.
In January of 2012 the victim, a 92-year-old woman was approached by a traveling "construction crew" who convinced the victim her roof was in
...more need of repairs. The victim was told they could coat the roof, preventing leaks from developing and reducing her energy bill.
After paying for the service, the Sheriff's Office reports an investigation revealed the construction crew was not licensed in Highlands County and the work they completed appeared to consist of simply painting the victim's single roof.
Detectives are now releasing surveillance photographs of a white balding male who investigators say cashed the victim's check.
Investigators warn citizens to only do business with legitimate, properly licensed construction companies. To verify a license you can contact the Highlands County Building Department at (863)
