Treasure Island -- A Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Workshop will be held Tuesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
It is happening at the Treasure Island Community Center, 1 Park Place & 106th Avenue.
It will be a 30-minute program covering Florida bicycle laws, traffic crash statistics and
...more demographics for bicyclists, and important safety tips for riding in the roadway and on the sidewalk.
All attendees will receive a reflective slap bracelet or reflective backpack, bike/pedestrian law enforcement guide and safety tip bookmarks.

Treasure Island, Florida - Officials are trying to find out who is responsible for a dead dog found in the Gulf, tied down with a cement block.

The Tampa Bay SPCA says they were contacted by a local fishing guide last week, who found the pit bull in the water, off of Treasure Island.
...more The animal had been weighed down by the cement block, pictured above.

Pinellas deputies retrieved the animal's body, and started a case file.

SPCA Tampa Bay is offering a $500 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. If you have information, contact SPCA Tampa Bay at 727-586-3591, ext. 135.

Treasure Island, Florida -- Former Florida Governor Bob Martinez will be the featured guest speaker in a special business owner’s forum of the Treasure Island Vision Stewardship Committee on Tuesday night, April 24 at Treasure Island City Hall.
Gov. Martinez’ talk, entitled “Skin in the

The public, as well as Treasure Island property and business owners, is invited to participate in this enriching session of scenarios, collaborations and visioning.

Treasure Island, Florida -- When David Cassidy rocks The Club at Treasure Island for a private concert on Friday, April 13, he'll be celebrating his birthday (one day prior on April 12) and the 40th anniversary of his debut solo album, "Cherish" (released in 1972).

Treasure Island, Florida -- The Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce is hosting a chill lounge Saturday, March 31, from 6 - 11 p.m., Treasure Island Community Center Park, 1 Park Place & 106th Avenue.
The park will be transformed into an open-air South Beach night club under the stars with

Entertainment includes live band performances by Act 111 and AJ and the Automatics. Special music by Vanessa Q, and a dazzling runway fashion show presented by Benjamin's Studios.

Treasure Island -- As a part of the preparatory work in association with the replacement of the Capri and Palms bridges, soil boring work will be completed at the east and west end of each bridge, beginning Monday, March 5.

To accomplish this, a lane closure will be necessary at each
...more bridge. Expect to see a drill rig in the road at each bridge end. Necessary barricading and traffic control will be employed.

The schedule for this work is as follows:

Isle of Palms Bridge - Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 7 
Isle of Capri Bridge - Wednesday March 7 and Thursday, March 8
Friday, March 9 is reserved as a weather/rain day.

The work schedule may actually take less time depending upon the conditions.

The soil boring contractor, Williams Geotechnical Group, will limit their daily work schedule between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Treasure Island, Fla. -- After a year in the works, Treasure Island moves forward with the next phase of improving the city's nearly mile-long gulf front beach trail.
Completed plans for the trail overhaul project will be unveiled at Special Commission Workshop on Thursday, March 8 at 6
...more p.m. in Treasure Island City Hall, 120 108th Avenue.
The public is welcomed to attend and provide comments on the plans.
The trail plans, developed by Graham Booth Landscape Architects of St. Petersburg, feature a winding concrete sidewalk that spans the entire length of the current trail, connecting a series of beach access points, from 119th Avenue southward to 104th Avenue.
Along the trail, showers, native landscaping, trash receptacles, environmental signs and turtle-friendly lighting will mark beach access points.
Built in the mid-1960's, along the city's "Miracle Mile" of hotels and motels, the Treasure Island Beach Trail has remained almost unchanged for over 40

Treasure Island - The Treasure Islettes is getting ready for their 6th Annual spring fashion show and luncheon fundraiser.  The Treasure Islette's "Cruise Into Fasion" Show is Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m. featuring apparel courtesy of Macy's.
It's happening at the Treasure Island

$15 donation includes a social hour at 11 a.m., a noon lunch and fashion show at 1 p.m.
The Treasure Islettes, a women's club founded in 1955, hosts this spring fundraiser, and all proceeds from this event will be used for Treasure Island beautification. Over the years, the Treasure Islettes has donated cash and equipment valued at over $800,000. The club meets September through May at the TI Community Center typically on the 4th Monday of the month at 7 p.m.

Treasure Island - The 13th annual Gulf Beaches Rotary Golf and Tennis Challenge is scheduled for Feb. 23-25 at Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis, 10315 Paradise Blvd., Treasure Island.

Play Glow Golf on Thursday night, watch the St. Petersburg College Women's Tennis Team match on Friday
...more afternoon, attend the Silent Auction preview and draw party dinner on Friday night, or join in the Tennis round Robin or Scramble Golf Tournament Saturday morning.

Proceeds benefit the Treasure Bay Juniors Program, Gulf Beaches Rotary Foundations, and the Treasure Island Children's recreation porgrams.

Treasure Island -- 2012 is a year in which voters city-wide will elect a mayor.
However, Mayor Bob Minning is unopposed this year, so there is no mayoral election. He will be sworn in for a second 3-year term on March 20, 2012.
Voters in Districts 2 and 4 normally elect a commissioner
...more in even-numbered years, and in 2012, there are two candidates running for District 2 commissioner and three candidates running for District 4 commissioner. Therefore, only voters in District 2 and District 4 will be going to the polls on March 13, 2012.
There are no ballot questions this year.
