Thousands of survivors, runners, and walkers all took part in the 7th Annual Miles for Moffitt Saturday, May 12 at the University of South
...more Florida Sundome. It's estimated that 7,000 people attended.

Miles for Moffitt brings together cancer survivors, patients, friends, families, and others who want to support local cancer research.

The events, which include 5K, 5 mile, and 1 mile walks/runs kicked off just before 7:30 a.m.

10 News anchors Heather Van Nest and Reginald Roundtree were honored to serve as emcees. The special survivor's tribute ceremony around 9:15 a.m. is one of the many highlights.

Tampa, Fla. -- For the USF softball team, a three-year draught ended Sunday night.

The Bulls landed in the Big Dance for the first time since 2008, entering the NCAA Tournament via the Gainesville Regional, as announced on ESPNU late Sunday evening.

USF is slated in a
...more double-elimination bracket that features all Florida teams. The Bulls will lead the tournament off against UCF Friday at 3:30 p.m. EST, as FGCU and fifth-seeded Florida sit on the other half.

Earlier this season, USF topped the Gators in Gainesville. The Bulls are 1-1 against Florida this season, 1-0 against FGCU and have not played UCF. Of the 63 other teams in the field, USF has faced 19 this season.

Temple Terrace, Florida - An elderly couple is talking about a scary experience at their home Friday, when they were viciously attacked by a stranger. The incident happened at Charlotte and Ralph Tennants home along Rainbow Street. Police have arrested 23-year-old Sydric

Charlotte said Reynolds started talking to her outside the couple's home along Rainbow Street about doing yard work. They went inside, and that's when the 78-year-old said Reynolds attacked. Next thing Charlotte knew, she was on the floor.

"I was kicking and screaming and he got a hand over my mouth and he had covered my eyes," said Charlotte. "Said if you don't stop screaming I will kill you. Now please don't scream. I will kill you, do you understand. I will kill you."

But Charlotte screamed loud enough that her husband came to the living room, where the 82-year-old said Reynolds hit him and caused a gash that needed eight stitches. Reynolds took off when another family

Washington, D.C. - Concerned about the public health threat posed by forgotten factory sites in his home state of Ohio and nationwide, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on Monday requested a Senate committee hold a hearing on the EPA's ability to address the problem of lead contamination in soil.

USA Today's 14-month investigation exposed unsafe levels of lead in homes and parks that can cause health problems, especially in kids. Some of those sites are here in the Tampa Bay area.

WASHINGTON - Six U.S. senators are calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to immediately examine the health threats posed by forgotten factory sites like the one in Temple Terrace, recently spotlighted by the 10 News Investigators and USA Today.

...more Wednesday to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the senators urged the EPA to "take immediate action" to review unassessed sites and to set priorities for remediation, such as sites near schools or playgrounds. "It is necessary to ensure that people living near these sites, especially children, are safe," the letter said.

The letter was organized by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and was also signed by Sens. Robert Casey, D-Pa.; Jack Reed, D-R.I.; Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I.; Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.; and Al Franken, D-Minn.

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police have arrested four people who attempted to buy a kilogram of cocaine.

According to police, the arrests on the afternoon of May 8 in the 1700 block of Busch Boulevard was the result of a two-week long investigation.

...more McGill, 50, Elijah Banks III, 41, and Thomas Snell, 37, were all charged with Conspiracy to Traffic in Cocaine over 400 grams in exchange for $34,000. Banks and McGill were also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

A Ford Expedition and a Chrysler van were also seized at the scene along with the cash.

Temple, Terrace, FL - Temple Terrace has seen a 27 percent drop in major crimes over the past three years, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The FDLE released its 2011 Uniform Crime Report on Monday. Its figures show that Florida's crime rate is at a 41-year low. The
...more number of violent crimes (murder, forcible sex offenses, robbery and aggravated assaults) was down 3.7 percent statewide in 2011 compared to 2010, according to the report.
Temple Terrace has seen its crime index drop for the third consecutive year. In fact, Temple Terrace's 2011 crime index was the community's lowest in more than a decade, said Temple Terrace Police Chief Ken Albano.

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - Authorities say one of two drivers accused of fatally hitting a pedestrian has turned himself in.

Twenty-seven-year-old Javier Fernandez was arrested early Monday. He's charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a valid driver's

The Tampa Bay Times reports Cynthia Myhal was walking along a Tampa street Saturday night when she was hit by Fernandez. The force of the crash sent Myhal into the path of a black Nissan Maxima. Both vehicles left the scene.

Myhal was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the Maxima is a late 1990s model with a sunroof and a Florida orange and black specialty tag. It possibly has damage to its undercarriage.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
