At 12:01 this morning WTSP-TV doubled it's signal strength.

Television viewers may soon find that cable isn't the only game in town for local sports and news following a Federal Communications Commission ruling Wednesday.

Even some of the technologically sophisticated have been stumped by the shutdown of U.S. analog TV service and switch to digital.

After 10 Connects made the switch to DTV on Friday, dozens of calls started coming in from viewers who could no longer see the station. A majority of the calls were from people who simply needed to perform another channel re-scan after the DTV switch, while others discovered they needed a new antenna to see all of the local network affiliates.

The federal government  is selling the old broadcast spectrum now that the digital TV change has occurred. The government will make billions on the sale.

Stations around the country are switching over today to a digital signal. The FCC has put 4,000 operators on standby for calls from confused viewers.

Research firm SmithGeiger surveyed 948 households that relied on antennas around the beginning of June and found that 1 in 8 had not connected a digital TV or digital converter box.
